A
MESSAGE
FROM
THE
ELDERS
How
long
will
you
waver
between
two
opinions?
What
a
great
question
the
prophet
Elijah
had
for
God’s
people!
That
same
question
is
relevant
to
His
people
today.
Yes,
we
do
have
to
decide
–
God
gave
us
that
privilege!
Jim
Brown
reminded
us
on
Sunday
even
stated
that
the
real
question
might
be,
“Are
we
living
our
lives
with
conviction
that
God
is
on
our
side?”
May
our
conviction
to
His
Word
and
our
love
for
the
lost
“stir
us
up”
to
do
much
good
for
His
cause!
Churches
that
grow
have
a
distinct
vision
for
the
future.
In
Sunday
School,
we
discussed
growing
churches.
Perhaps
we
all
need
to
feel
a
sense
of
our
mission
–
we
are
all
in
this
together.
Mistakes
may
be
made
along
the
way;
however,
we
can
recover
quickly
through
our
unity.
Our
congregation
is
a
part
of
the
larger
Centerville
community
and
we
should
continue
to
have
a
positive
influence
through
our
efforts
in
good
works
as
this
church
family
has
for
140
years.
September
7
will
be
a
very
important
day
for
our
congregation.
Our
Framing
the
Future
Contribution
will
be
the
springboard
for
our
fall
plans!
May
we
be
praying
and
planning
our
part
so
we
might
begin
without
a
large
financial
burden.
Also
on
September
7,
we
will
name
our
new
church
treasurer.
October
will
be
a
month
filled
with
events.
We
will
host
a
dinner
on
October
12
for
our
771st
Guard
Unit
to
show
our
support
for
them
and
their
families
as
they
prepare
for
their
second
deployment.
On
Saturday,
October
18
at
10:00
A.M.,
Jim
Bill
McInteer
will
speak
in
our
fall
two-day
meeting.
Brother
McInteer
will
speak
again
at
6:00
P.M.
that
day
and
at
both
services
on
Sunday
the
19th.
We
look
forward
to
this
great
preacher
sharing
with
us
during
this
unique
two-day
meeting.
Let’s
practice
our
friendship
evangelism
as
we
participate
in
an
exciting
fall!
This
week’s
featured
ministry
is
Benevolence.
BENEVOLENCE
--By
Jimmy
Copley
Benevolence
is
extended
as
possible
to
our
fellowman
to
alleviate
hurt
and
fear
of
the
downtrodden.
This
assistance
is
given
to
meet
needs
other
than
food
and
raiment.
Sometimes
a
request
is
made
to
help
with
such
things
as
rent
and/or
utilities.
Counseling
may
also
be
provided
so
that
responsible
decision
making
may
be
made.
Elder
which
oversee
this
ministry
are
Bobby
Bates
and
Bill
Davis.
Serving
on
this
committee
are
Deacons
Billy
Garner,
James
Aydelott
and
Jimmy
Copley.

MOMENTS
WITH
MATTHEW
Matthew
Dotson
Preacher-In-Training
Sunday
morning
I
sat
and
listened
to
Jim
Brown
speak
on
the
topic
of
human
suffering…and
what
an
incredible
message
it
was!
For
anyone
who
has
ever
lost
a
loved
one
this
message
struck
straight
to
the
heart.
Not
only
did
it
provide
some
comfort
to
me,
but
it
also
helped
remind
me
that
the
suffering
we
go
through
on
earth
is
"but
for
a
moment."
May
we
all
take
this
message
to
heart
and
always
remember
that
no
amount
of
suffering
that
we
go
through
will
ever
come
close
to
the
amount
of
suffering
that
Jesus
went
through
on
the
cross—for
our
sins.
A
couple
of
weeks
ago
I
sat
and
talked
with
a
woman
who
is
nearly
90
years
old.
As
we
sat
and
talked
she
told
me
that
when
she
was
nine
years
old
she
made
the
commitment
to
pray
and
to
study
her
Bible
every
day.
Sure
enough,
she
has
kept
that
commitment.
What
a
testimony!
I
cannot
help
but
admire
this
women
and
people
like
her
who
have
devoted
their
lives
to
studying
God's
Word
and
learning
His
teachings.
Isaiah
50:4-5
says,
"Morning
by
morning
he
wakens
me
and
opens
my
understanding
to
his
will.
The
Lord
has
spoken
to
me,
and
I
have
listened."
As
this
new
school
year
begins
may
we
all
make
the
commitment
to
spend
some
time
with
our
mighty
God
"morning
by
morning."
Even
if
it
is
just
for
a
few
minutes,
let's
all
take
some
time
to
study
our
Bibles
and
to
pray
to
God
in
heaven.
It
will
definitely
be
fulfilling
if
we
decide
to
make
this
commitment.
You
ask,
how
can
I
be
sure
of
this?
I
saw
the
fulfillment
in
the
eyes
of
this
wonderful
Christian
woman
when
she
spoke
of
it.
It
has
been
quite
a
summer.
I
was
talking
with
someone
the
other
day
and
they
mentioned
the
fact
that
this
has
probably
been
the
most
eventful
summer
of
my
life.
I
went
on
a
two
week
mission
trip
to
Rio
de
Janeiro,
Brazil
in
May.
I
was
hired
by
the
church
as
the
"Preacher
in
Training,"
a
position
that
I
thoroughly
enjoy
and
continue
to
learn
from.
I
got
engaged
to
a
wonderful
Christian
woman
and
will
get
married
next
May.
And
I
lost
my
grandfather,
my
best
friend,
my
role
model,
and
my
#1
fan
all
in
one
on
August
9
when
George
R.
Dotson
passed
away.
Reflecting
on
all
of
this
I
can
see
one
thing
clearly:
our
God
is
an
awesome
and
powerful
God!
It
is
through
God's
power
that
our
group
from
Belmont
was
able
to
go
to
South
America
and
share
the
Gospel
with
Children
who
have
never
heard
of
Jesus
Christ.
It
is
through
God's
power
that
I
am
able
to
work
for
this
wonderful
congregation
and
learn
what
it
is
like
to
be
a
preacher.
It
is
through
God's
power
that
Cecily
and
I
are
together,
preparing
for
a
lifetime
of
service
to
Him.
And
it
is
through
God's
power
that
my
grandfather's
suffering
was
ended
so
that
he
could
receive
his
new
body
and
go
ride
his
bicycle
in
a
far
better
place.
I
hope
we
can
all
see
God's
power
in
one
way
or
another.
Think
back
on
your
summer.
In
what
ways
can
you
see
His
power
in
your
life?
Job
was
a
man
who
had
a
real
grasp
on
the
power
of
God.
He
says
in
5:8-9,
"But
if
it
were
I,
I
would
appeal
to
God;
I
would
lay
my
cause
before
him.
He
performs
wonders
that
cannot
be
fathomed,
miracles
that
cannot
be
counted."
We
can
rest
assured
that
our
God
is
powerful,
and
He
uses
His
power
daily
in
our
lives.
God
bless,
Matthew
