Centerville Church of Christ
 
Minister Position Announcement

   The Centerville Church of Christ in Centerville, Tennessee is seeking a full time minister.  With an attendance of 550 - 600, the congregation is overseen by seven elders and served by twenty-nine deacons, a full time youth minister and two secretaries.

 Centerville is located in Hickman County approximately forty (40) miles south/southwest of Nashville.  The congregation operates a Day School, Camp Meribah, an Outreach Center, the Hope House  and many other programs.  Local evangelism includes visitation teams, jail ministry and radio and television broadcasts.  Several mission areas are  supported.

Job Description

Title:  Minister

Duties

I.       Preaching

          Shall prepare and deliver Sunday morning and evening sermons each week

II.      Teaching

          Shall teach a Sunday School and/or Wednesday night Bible class

III.     Evangelism

           Shall work individually and with congregational groups to bring the lost and erring to Christ

IV.     Congregational Edification & Service

         A.      Shall listen to, encourage, comfort and counsel members of the congregation

            B.      Shall visit in homes, hospitals, nursing homes and institutions as appropriate

C.      Shall conduct weddings and funerals when requested

D.      Shall exhibit a positive attitude

V.      Community Involvement

         A.      Shall be visible in the community

B.      Shall represent the congregation in community activities

VI.     Administrative Functions

          Shall supervise the day to day work of the Church office staff

VII.   Other

          Shall carry out other duties as assigned by the Elders 

 

Responsibilities

I.       To be faithful to Christ and His Church

II.      To proclaim the Truth, neither adding to or taking away

III.     To devote significant time to Bible study

IV.     To conduct self as a Christian at all times and in all situations

V.      To work under and to respect the authority of the Elders

VI.     To communicate with the Elders as requested or needed         

VII.    To function as a member of the congregation in voluntary tasks and assignments

VIII.   To present self in public in appropriate attire and groomed appropriately

IX.      To be accountable in scheduling, time management and assigned record keeping         

X.       To make time for physical family

 

Congregational Expectations

Minister Should Be:

I.       Sound in Doctrine - not an extremist

II.      Faithful to the Word of God - neither adds to or takes away

III.     Transparent - does not have hidden agendas  

IV.     Mature

V.      Married

VI.     Family Status - children a plus but not a pre-requisite

VII.   Education - some post secondary training in the Bible preferred

VIII.  Preaching

A. Has prior full time minister experience on some level preferred 

B. Is Bible centered

IX.     Personality

A.      Logical thinker with appropriate emotional discipline

B.      Views the present by understanding the past in order to look to the future

C.      Oriented toward others

D.      Organized, prepared and formal, but informal when appropriate

E.      Builds relationships with all sub-groups in the congregation

X.      Tenure

The congregation desires a minister who seeks to work with the congregation on a long term basis

 

Search Process

I.       A Minister Search Committee has been appointed by the Elders of the congregation

II.      The Minister Search Committee will operate under guidelines established by the Elders  

A.      The committee  will seek out potential candidates

B.      The committee  will accept recommendations of potential candidates

C.      The committee will receive applications of candidates

D.      The committee will evaluate all candidates and potential candidates

E.      Candidates and potential candidates must be evaluated multiple times by different committee members before they are eliminated or selected for additional evaluations

F.      The committee  will ultimately present a small number of finalist (3 - 5) to the Elders for their consideration

III.     The Minister Search Committee has set a goal to have its work completed by August 2008

IV.     The Elders will take the Minister Search Committee's recommendations and conduct the final
           selection process

V.      All negotiations regarding employment, salary and benefits will be conducted by the Elders
