Our Weekly Bulletin
A mother’s love is marked by selflessness. In the life of a mother, the needs of her children often come before her own. Whether it is waking up in the middle of the night to tend to a crying infant, sacrificing personal time to ensure a child’s happiness and success, or putting aside her own desires to care for the well-being of her family, the love of a mother is sacrificial in nature.
The Apostle Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 13:5, “Love does not insist on its own way.” This encapsulates the heart of a mother’s love. It is a love that is not concerned with receiving, but with giving—often without expecting anything in return. For mothers, this selflessness is not a burden, but a choice made out of deep, unconditional love. It’s a reflection of the love Christ demonstrated for His followers, who often did not reciprocate His love.
While the love of mothers is undoubtedly self-sacrificial, it is the love of Christ that serves as the ultimate model for all sacrificial love. In 1 John 3:16, we read, “This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us.” Jesus’ death on the cross was the ultimate act of sacrificial love, one that continues to serve as a reminder to us all of the depth of God’s love for humanity.
This coming Sunday as we reflect on the sacrificial love of mothers on Mother’s Day, let us also remember the ultimate sacrifice made by Christ for us. In this way, we can truly understand the depth of love that mothers share—a love that brings life, nurtures, and sacrifices for the sake of others. May we, as individuals and as a Church, learn to live out this sacrificial love in our own lives, for in doing so, we fulfill Christ’s command to love one another as He has loved us. God Bless -Todd
