Our Weekly Bulletin
It is hard to believe that we have come to the end of another month and that school starts in just a few days. Let us all be in prayer for our children, teachers, administrators, support stuff, bus drivers and all involved for a safe school year here in Hickman County.
Our theme for the month of August shifts from “Good Works – Discipleship” to “Good Works – Wisdom”. Wisdom is very important in the Christian’s walk, but where does wisdom come from? James 1:5 tells us where to find the answer: “If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.” The Lord gives wisdom to those who heed the words that come from God (Prov. 2:6). When Moses was giving God’s commands to Israel, he encouraged them to keep and do the commandments, “for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the nations, which shall hear all these statutes, and say, Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people” (Deut. 4:6).
One does not need to be a thoroughly trained scholar to receive wisdom from God’s word. Everyone can receive wisdom from the Bible. “The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple” (Psa. 19:7). We will see in our study of wisdom that God and His word is where true wisdom comes from. As Paul wrote in Colossians 3:16; “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom…”. He is saying that true wisdom is submitting to the authority of Christ, we know His authority because of the scriptures, in all that we say and do in our lives.
So, as we begin another month of “Good Works” and add yet another component of what the bible defines for us as a good work, we will hope to become a little more aware of wisdom and where it comes from and how we become more wise in our lives. Let us all be aware of what kind of wisdom is seen within our life. Let us all work and pray that it will be the kind of wisdom that comes from above.
God Bless -Todd
