“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also on Me” (John 14:1). To me, there isn’t a more encouraging verse than this one. Jesus tells us to not worry or be troubled in any way.
Jesus was preparing His disciples for His departure; His return to heaven to sit at the right hand of the Father, to rule over His eternal kingdom. When you put yourself in the apostle’s place, this was a terrifying feeling to know that things were about to change. We know and understand from the scriptures that when a loved one who is faithful to God dies, we will see them again if we live a faithful life. There is comfort in knowing that and Jesus is promising that in John 14; “That where I am, there you may be also…”.
The apostles didn’t quite understand that He was saying He would still be with them, but He was. And He is! He’s still with us too. Listen to the rest of what Jesus had to say: “In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you, I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also. And where I go you know, and the way you know” (John 14:2-4).
Those men who were terrified that Jesus was leaving them alone in this world needed to know that He would be coming back to get them; He wasn’t leaving them all alone. And when you feel as though He has left you all alone, you need to know that He is now, preparing a place for you and He is coming back to get you and all those who belong to Him. Jesus didn’t leave us in the dark. He told us where He was going and how we could follow Him. He left us an example to follow (1 Peter 2:21-24). He intended for us to follow His example so that we can be with Him in heaven when that time comes. He may not be here now in person, but He is here spiritually speaking. He has not gone and left us alone. He has told us how to get where He is and that if we will do those faithful things, He will come again and take us home to be with Him.
We find ourselves right now in an unprecedented time of uncertainty. The whole world seems to have lost its mind. Through all of this discouragement, here is the encouragement that I find: Jesus is coming back to get all of us who are faithfully serving Him, even through times as difficult as this. He is still God and He still reigns in heaven. “Let not your heart be troubled. God Bless -Todd
