What a blessing it was to be with God’s people on Sunday! During our morning and evening services, we spent time studying what God’s Word has to say about expectations. In a world where most people’s expectations are continuing to be lowered, as Christians we must remember to hold ourselves to a higher standard in how we behave and live. Paul’s words in Ephesians 3:16-21 remind us to expect more of ourselves, our company, and our Savior. So many in society today have minimized who Jesus Christ is, and we have to make a commitment to let his high standard motivate us to continue reaching for better spiritual living. May we constantly remember that we serve the Jesus Christ that is described in Ephesians 3:20-21, “Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.”

A couple of weeks ago our Young Adult Ministry (YAM) came together for our annual Valentine’s Dinner (see pictures). We enjoyed some dinner and dessert in Dickson and had a fantastic time spending an evening together. These young people continue to be a blessing to our congregation and a positive light in a world that often seems so filled with darkness.

Ladies Day is rapidly approaching! On Saturday, March 16, I hope all of the ladies in our congregation can make plans to be a part of this special day–be sure to sign up in the lobby if you plan to attend. There are so many of you in our congregation who have already devoted countless hours to preparing for this, and you are very much appreciated for the hard work you are putting in. I know Sheila Butt will be a blessing to many on that great day!

How did you celebrate Presidents Day last week? If you’re like most people, it probably didn’t consist of an elaborate party. However, I think there are plenty of lessons to be learned from our nation’s greatest leaders. General Dwight D. Eisenhower was quoted as saying “Accomplishment will prove to be a journey, not a destination.” These words echo the words of Proverbs 14:23, “In all labor there is profit, but idle chatter leads only to poverty.” In other words, if we want to accomplish great things then we must be invested in the “journey.” Idleness will not lead us to earthly success, and spiritual stagnation will not lead us to Heaven. God gives us a perfect eternal destination, but He also expects us to work hard and find joy in our journey to get there. May we continue to make our moments matter by laboring for our Lord now, so that we may enjoy the “profit” of Paradise later.

God bless,

Matthew
