The world can be a dark place and you do not have to look or listen very hard to see the darkness that envelopes it. It also is a world created by God for us to enjoy and see His power and his might. This past week for a day I saw the world through the eyes of my 3 year old granddaughter. Her excitement to see new and beautiful things was a breath of fresh air. Her complete innocence, seemingly untouched by the darkness of the world, reminded me of our life in Christ. How we are brought out of the sin of the world into a glorious relationship with Him. We are as His children to be a light that shines in a dark place.

In Matthew 5:13-16, Jesus told us we were to be salt and light among unbelievers. He also told us that we were to shine brightly for Him: 13 “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. 14 You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

There are a lot of ways we can let our light shine as Christians. People really do want to find a light of hope. Being able to teach the word is something that we all should try to get better at. You’re never going to get better at if you don’t start somewhere. How hard is it too simply say “I love Jesus to someone” or “I love going to Church.” If we all would try and do that, when possible, just once a week you might be surprised at questions or interest you will get about Christ and His church. One of the best ways we can let our light shine is to get comfortable just saying NO! When Satan knocks on your door and asks you to choose him over God the answer is NO! I don’t have to list all the temptations that he tries and pulls us away with. We all know that they are for us individually. Remember the old saying “Just Say No!” I am going to let my light shine.

Our lives are becoming more public than ever before. Even people we have never met can get a glimpse (or more) of who we are: How we act, how we dress, how we speak, what we think, what we do, what we love. What are they seeing?

“Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven”

God Bless -Todd
